Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, stressed the importance of moving forward the reforms and meeting the legitimate demands of the protesters, reiterating that it is important to have serious, radical, comprehensive, legal, constitutional and balanced reforms that contribute to the unity of the country and to fitting its components together. He also underlined the support for displaced families and the alleviation of their suffering, and that is what should be the role of the United Nations and Iraqi and international organizations. His Eminence, during a meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations Jan Kubis in his office in Baghdad on Thursday September 17th, 2015, affirmed that any project aiming at national reconciliation should be according to a clear and comprehensive vision and to the rule of what we give to Iraq instead of what Iraq gives us. Moreover, he called for supporting Iraq in its war against ISIS because it is a war of existence that targets everyone and that does not recognize the borders. Therefore, everyone should support security services, popular crowd, Iraqi clans, and Peshmerga, since they are plunging into a fierce war against the most violent attack against humanity. His Eminence called on the United Nations through the representative of the secretary-general in Baghdad to pursue relentlessly in order to convert the views among the political parties and to compile them on the basis of interests, noting that everyone’s interest is having a single and unified Iraq in which all the components of people and their interests are noticed.
