    Supreme Council calls the Iraqi people to show awareness and not to allow prejudice to religious figures

    On Monday, 20th of February, 2012. The Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq released a statement condemning all the procedures and practices that would endanger the unity of the Iraqi people to the strife and conflict, rejecting  the attacks against many of the bureaus of the religious authority in the country, calling the Iraqi people to show  awareness and vigilance and not allow any attempt aimed at the unity of the people and not to allow prejudice to religious figures, reminding the security forces with their responsibilities in preserving life, properties and to prosecute offenders and bring them to justice.

    The following is the content of the statement:

    Recently, some of our provinces have witnessed unprecedented attacks on the bureaus of the religious authority’s commissioners, which had formed excessive abuses to the reputation of the grand religious figures, as well as igniting the strife and division among the people.
    The Supreme Council, from its legitimacy and national responsibility, condemns these disgraceful attacks, and also condemns all procedures and practices that would endanger the unity of the Iraqi people to the strife and division.
    Simultaneously, While the Supreme Council calls the people to show high awareness and vigilance, to stand firmly facing such rejected abuses and not to allow any attempt aimed at the unity of our people and not to allow prejudice to religious figures, it also reminds the security forces with their responsibilities in preserving life, properties and to prosecute offenders and bring them to justice.
