    Calling on Muslims to Peacefully Condemn… Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim: Insulting Muslims’ Sanctities is a Flagrant Aggression against the Feelings of the Quarter of Humanity, and It is Rejected by all Conventions, Religions and Decency

    Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, called on Muslims all over the world to express their condemnation of abuses related to publishing abusive images of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by peaceful means, pointing out to the importance of freedom of expression which ceases at the sanctities of others. He added that insulting these sanctuaries is a blatant aggression against the feelings of the quarter of humanity, and it is rejected by all conventions, religions and decency, stressing that terrorism and terrorists do not represent Islam in anything as it is the religion of love, tolerance and peaceful co-existence; thus, western countries must realize this, and that terrorism is just a movement rejected by the Islamic sharia as well as by the human sense, considering the killing of journalists in France as a flagrant expression to disregarding lives and insolence to bloodshed.
    This came in a statement issued by his eminence, on Thursday, January 15th, 2015.
    His eminence indicated that the entire Islamic world felt compassion for the French people against this terrorist operation, in a clear and explicit expression of the rejection of terrorism and terrorists by peoples worldwide. His eminence condemned Charlie Hebdo for publishing photos depicting the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), showing that this act makes clear their hatred against Islam and His Messenger, calling on the United Nations to reject this act that spreads turmoil and hatred in the world and affects the world peace. This act is also one of the factors that help spread terrorism in the world. He also called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to play its role in the international forums to enact the international conventions to prevent the recurrence of such aggressive acts against Muslims.
