Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim said, “There is a sharp shortage in the marriage education, and some traditions that prevail in the society must be reconsidered.”

Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI), stressed that some traditions that prevail in the Iraqi society need to be reviewed and looked into, pointing out to a sharp shortage in the marriage education because of the feeling of shyness regarding talking about these matters, urging the parents to look into their choice for their children so the marriage onset may be sound. This came up during the 11th mass wedding festivity which was held by the Foundation of the Martyr of the Niche (may his soul be sanctified) when 566 young men and women got married and on the occasion of the Venerable Eidul-Ghadir in Diwaniyya governorate on Thursday, November 1, 2012.
Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim explained that marriage is the beginning of a new life, expressing his optimism for this festivity coinciding with the Venerable Eidul-Ghadir, stressing that partnership and concession form the basis for the marriage relationship in good as well as in bad times, regarding the success of the marriage relationship as an important key of humans’ happiness, emphasizing that happiness does not mean money and power but comfort and tranquility in the marriage life. He explained that the care of Allah, the most Praised, the most Exalted One, for marriage is guaranteed, and that not marrying for fear of poverty means thinking ill of Allah Almighty, explaining that marriage is recognized by reason as the sacred narratives say, and it is the basis of repose, stability, tranquility and the balance in one’s personality, and it is an immunity against falling into prohibition, stressing that Islam has no monasticism, and that a husband has to create a balance between his rituals and the rights of his wife and home.
The Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq called for grooms to take age into consideration, emphasizing the necessity of the proximity of ages between married couples so the wife may not be wronged nor may the husband. He admonishes a wife to well choose her husband, to safeguard her home by decreasing her remonstration and meeting the husband’s needs, regarding the abuse of wife with beating and insulting as something which is distant from manliness, urging fathers to marry their daughters off to those who have good manners and who follow their religion because they will fear Allah with regard to the trust in their hands, warning against involving the family of the husband and wife in marriage-related problems, justifying it by saying that this involvement complicates problems and does not solve them.
His Eminence pointed out to the necessity of paying attention to dubbed television series and the cultures they try to plant through these series that oppose our values, customs, traditions and religion, stressing that some series, in their dramatic sequence, make the viewer sympathize with one who has committed a sin or who betrayed. It is worth mentioning that the Foundation of the Martyr of the Niche (may his soul be sanctified) has sponsored the marriage of about 12,000 young men and women in the 11th mass wedding festivity.
