    Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim demands neighboring countries bound by the riparian right, and consider Iraq's water share and to set urgent plan for dams

    Head of the National Iraqi Alliance, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, called on the international community to bound by the riparian right and to take into account Iraq's water share, called on the government and the parliament to expedite the development of an urgent and secure plan for construction of dams and reservoirs.
    His eminence expressed his deep concern to news about the danger threatening Iraq after resumption of storage in the Turkish Alesso dam, which will have serious repercussions on the environmental, economic and even social levels in Iraq, especially after field reports confirm decline in water levels of the Tigris River, and warned of environmental impact on human and both flora and fauna
    His eminence urged the Iraqi government and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and Water Resources to seriously deal with this sensitive issue and activate all diplomatic channels with neighboring Turkey, urged the international community to oblige neighboring countries to the riparian rights law and to take into account Iraq's water share.
    His eminence called upon the government and the parliament to expedite setting an urgent and secure plan to construct dams and water reservoirs on the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers to avoid future risks.
