Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim with the Minister of Water Resources to discuss water crisis and ways of fair water shares
Head of the National Iraqi Alliance, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, in his office in Baghdad received the Minister of Water Resources, Dr. Hassan al-Janabi, Monday 4/6/2018
His eminence with Janabi discussed facts of water resources and the crisis resulting from operating Ilısu Dam on the Tigris River from the Turkish side.
His eminence called to address the crisis with swift measures to guarantee the fair share for Iraq, noted the importance of activating the legal entitlements, international laws and Iraqi diplomacy towards neighboring countries aiming to provide water.
His eminence emphasized supporting Ministry of Water Resources efforts and other relevant ministries to apply pressure on neighboring countries to provide Iraq's share plus providing the necessary allocations and start projects and provide potable and irrigation water, and making transgressors on water quotas accountable, his eminence called to start lining and irrigation projects to avoid waste of water, taking into account ensuring Basra share of potable water and completing the Big Basrah Water Project and the Shatt al-Arab projects to prevent water leakage to the Gulf.
