Sayyid Al-Hakeem Affirms Constitutional Commitment, Public Interest With Kurdistan Islamic Union Delegation
His Eminence Sayyid Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, met with a delegation from the Kurdistan Islamic Union at his office in Baghdad on Sunday morning, 11 January 2026. The discussions addressed developments in Iraq’s political landscape and the broader region.
H.E. stressed the necessity of adhering to constitutional timelines to complete the remaining electoral entitlements, calling for prioritizing the public interest over narrow considerations and adopting mutual concessions to resolve outstanding issues.
H.E. urged sharing the national responsibility and pursuing practical, root-level solutions to economic challenges, underscoring the importance of diversifying revenue sources, activating productive sectors, and moving Iraq beyond a rentier-state model vulnerable to oil price fluctuations.
H.E. also emphasized the importance of unity of position within each component, noting that this facilitates understanding among political blocs, shortens timelines, and accelerates the process of government formation.
