His Eminence Sayyid Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Iraq, Nicolo Fontana, at His office in Baghdad on Thursday morning, January 15, 2026. The meeting reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and discussed the latest political developments in Iraq and the region.
The talks also explored prospects for advancing Iraqi–Italian relations across the political, economic, and tourism sectors, in addition to exchanging expertise on issues of mutual interest in a manner that strengthens shared interests between the two friendly peoples.
H.E. pointed to the messages of recovery reflected in Iraq’s current reality following the achievement of security, political, and social stability, alongside an electoral recovery marked by broad participation rates, public satisfaction with the results, and the Iraqi people’s rallying around their political system—an indication of the maturity of the democratic experience and the country’s path toward sustainable stability.
