In his speech in the first eve of the sacred month of Muharram, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim says, “The issue of Imam al-Hussain (Ú) is a school, a giving university in all times.”

Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI), stressed that the month of Muharram is not a month of just weeping, and we must weep, nor is it the month of only grieving, and we must grieve. It is not sufficient that we are draped in black, and we do have to wear black. But Muharram’s message is deeper and broader, and we must get to know this message and walk on its light as a message for adhering to loyalty and to dissociation. It is the message of loyalty to the truth and hostility to falsehood. His Eminence added in his speech in the first eve of the sacred month of Muharram in Baghdad on Thursday, November 15, 2012, that the struggle that took place on the Ashura Day (the tenth of the month of Muharram) in the Taff Battle was not a struggle between al-Hussain, peace with him, as great as it was, and Yazid son of Mu`awiyah. Rather, it was a struggle of programs, projects, of the ranking of truth and of falsehood. He drew attention to its being a battle between goodness and evil, between purity and infallibility personified in al-Hussain, peace with him, and his companion (on the one hand) and the meanness and lowliness represented by the army of Yazid and his supporters (on the other). His Eminence added to say that the peak of good manners, nobility, firmness, insistence, enthusiasm, conviction and the truth, in addition to hundreds of norms of good manners, were all personified in the team of al-Hussain, peace with him, and his front. As for the other front, which represented the peak of meanness and ignobility, bad manners and deception, trickery and cruelty…, were all personified in it.
His Eminence regarded the issue of Imam al-Hussain (Ú) as a school, a giving university, for it is a spiritual, ethical, ideological, educational and political school, one specialized in everything. He pointed out that we have been accustomed in this good assembly to throw our small nets in the ocean of al-Hussain, peace with him, in this school, and bring out some of these jewels which we present to you every year.
His Eminence stressed treading along the same path, shedding light on some facts and mysteries which the Taff Battle contained, emphasizing that one of these issues which attract attention to Imam al-Hussain (Ú) is that from the moment of his onset up to the last moment of his martyrdom, there is one particular issue which he kept emphasizing, mentioning, talking about, explaining and detailing, reminding others of it, and that in every sermon, speech, stance, he, his Ahlul-Bayt and companions greatly emphasized. This point is “reliance on Allah, the most Praised, the most Exalted One.”
It should be stated that a Hussaini majlis (gathering) is held every evening at the Baghdad office of His Eminence which is attended by a large number of dignitaries and residents of the outskirts of the capital, Baghdad, in addition to a large number of political and academic personalities.
