    Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim calls for lifting the ban on holding international championships in Iraq

    Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, has called for a total lifting of the ban imposed on holding international championships in Iraq, expressing his appreciation of the stance of Sheikh Ahmad Fahd al-Ahmad in lifting the ban from the championships of the friendly Iraqi team on its lands, in addition to this stance in support of holding the upcoming Gulf 22 championship in Iraq.
    This came up when His Eminence welcomed His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Fahd al-Ahmad, formerly deputy prime minister of Kuwait, head of the Asian Olympic Council and head of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee, at his Baghdad office on Wednesday, March 7, 2013.
    Sheikh al-Ahmad praised the patriotic stances and moderate viewpoints of His Eminence Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, expressing his appreciation of the efforts of His Eminence in firming the good brotherly relations between Iraq and Kuwait in order to serve the interest of both brotherly countries and peoples.
    The meeting was attended by the Kuwaiti ambassador to Iraq. It was also attended by the minister of sports and youths, Jassim Muhammad Ja`far, as well as by Raad Hammoudi, head of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, and Najih Hammoud, head of the Central Iraqi Football (soccer) Union.
