Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Islamic Superior Council of Iraq, stressed the need to differentiate between those who illegally take up arms against the security forces and the Iraqi state institutions and the citizens who exercise their right to hold peaceful demonstrations, indicating that fighting against the security forces and the state institutions is illegal and outlawed.
During a meeting with the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki , on Friday, April 26, 2013, in his Eminence's office in Baghdad, the latter maintained that the army reflects the standing of the State and of the political process, and that it is not allowed to harm the army or its reputation. He also stated that the government was flexible and lenient with the demands of the demonstrators, and it has answered many of them.
As for the election results, his Eminence said now that the vote of confidence is given, it is important to honor the obligations, implement the ideas of the electoral campaign and secure the welfare of citizens through successful governance, not to mention having the citizens believe in the ability of a competent, loyal and equal-level team to offer services. He also explained that the big challenge is to carefully examine the choices of those in posts of authority and for this team to have a clear program for the citizens, in addition to working in cooperation and involving as many winners among the different parties as possible while being united in commitment and vision in such a way as to complement each other.
For his part, the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of cooperation between the parties who won the elections, since it helps form strong, coherent local governments able to fulfill its obligations towards its citizens all over the country.
