The Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, Sayyid Ammar Al Hakim, received in his Baghdad office on Sunday, 18/7/2013, the United Nations Deputy Secretary General for political affairs, Mr. Steel Van.
His Eminence called in his meeting with Van for a larger role of the UN in Iraq in the coming phase, in light of the crises that the country is going through and that require decisive and delicate solutions, remembering with Mr. Van the bombing of the United Nations headquarters and the killing of Sergio de Mello, the UN secretary general's special representative to Iraq.
The two sides discussed the political developments in Iraq and the region. Van praised the efforts of Sayyid Ammar Al Hakim and leaders in the Supreme Council in bringing closer the viewpoints of political parties to solve the current crisis in Iraq, affirming that his visions match those of Sayyid Ammar Al Hakim, as to the need to resort to dialogue as a way to solve problems.
