The UN Secretary-General’s special representative for Iraq, Nikolay Mladenov, confirmed the support of the United Nations for Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim’s initiative “Our Resisting Anbar” which aims at supporting Anbar province and its jealous tribes in their war against terrorism within a long-term strategy that takes into consideration the sensitive status of the province, its critical location amidst the transnational breeding grounds of terrorism, showing the support of the United Nations for the Iraqi forces in clearing Iraq, particularly the western territories, from the terrorist groups.
This came during a meeting between Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, in his office in Baghdad on Thursday, January 9, 2014, and the UN Secretary-General’s special representative for Iraq, Nikolay Mladenov.
For his part, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim called the United Nations for making every effort to give humanitarian aids to the affected families who emigrate from Anbar province to the nearby provinces as a result of the military operations, praising the citizens who are hosting their brothers emigrating from Anbar and providing the necessary aids for them, and calling for more national unity between all components of the Iraqi people.
