Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, denounced the Israeli attack on Gaza, calling on the international community to fully assume its responsibilities towards this unarmed people in these circumstances and to lift the siege of Gaza. He also called on the Arab and Islamic countries to show solidarity with the Palestinian people to stop the bloodshed and to defend it.
This came during the 11th Ramadan evening gathering held in his Eminence's office in Baghdad on Wednesday, July 9, 2014.
His Eminence said if the Zionist enemy knew that more than one billion Muslims would rise up if some of them are attacked, it would not have dared to kill the children, the women and the elders in Palestine during Ramadan, adding that the separation and the division among Arab and Muslims are the reason why the enemies are launching such brutal attacks without restraint. He finds it strange that the Arab countries are not willing even to freeze their relations with the Zionist enemy as objection and protest against the brutal assault on the Palestinian people.
Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim also condemned the attacks against the Muslim followers of Ahl-al-Bayt in Turkey where their mosques are being burnt in public, calling on the Turkish government to act with a sense of responsibility and pursue the doers and protect its citizens and the worship houses in the country.
Moreover, his Eminence maintained that terrorism in Iraq must be countered in an organized way and according to ethical standards, stressing the need to discriminate between the innocent citizens and the terrorists. In his opinion, the souls and properties of the citizens must be protected and terrorism must be fought flawlessly so that the innocent citizens can be sure and reassured that those who are confronting terrorism are protecting them. Finally, he said Daesh is a terrorist organization that kills the Shia for they are a different sect and some Sunnis who disagree with it, reminding that we are the children of Iraq and Islam who have values and principles that must be applied to the anti-terrorism campaign.
