In a Meeting with Kurdistan Scholars and Intellectuals, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim Says the Problems between the Center and the Kurdistan Region Must Be Resolved Based on the Rights, the Obligations and the Mutual Interests

Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, said that the problems between the Center and the Kurdistan Region must be resolved based on the rights, the obligations and the mutual interests, explaining that the amity and cooperation between both sides eliminate the obstacles preventing the settlement of these problems and that Kurdistan is a main and beloved part of the Iraqi land.
This came during a meeting between his Eminence at his office in Baghdad on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, and a delegation of scholars, academics and social community organizations from Kurdistan region following its participation in the events of the International Conference on al-Ghadir in Najaf Ashraf.
Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim underlined the historical attitudes of the religious authority in defending the rights and dignity of the Iraqi people, referring to the fatwa of the community marja Ayatollah Sayyid Mohsen al-Hakim (May Allah be happy with him) which forbid then the fight of the Kurds. His Eminence added that the past regime had gathered those who pretended to be religious, issuing a fatwa about the obligation of fighting the Kurdish people because they are disobedient. According to him, the fatwa of Sayyid al-Hakim came to do justice and to defend the rights of the Iraqi people though Sayyid paid dearly for this when the screw was tightened on him and he was put under house arrest and his son Sayyid Mahdi al-Hakim was accused of collaboration with the foreigners, through the positions of the grand marjas to the eternal positions of Sayyid al-Sistani and his advocacy for the components of the Iraqi people.
His Eminence noted that the mutual visits between the Kurdish and Arab scholars, intellectuals and ordinary people, and the participation in the different events in the region and the other Iraqi provinces reinforce the unity between the people of one country, explaining that the scholars, the intellectuals and the politicians have the obligation to find solutions to all the problems. For al-Hakim, Eid al-Ghadir is an occasion of unity and solidarity between all Muslims of all sects and communities and the loyalty to Islam and to the Prophet (PBUH) and his household as well as the common history and interests are what connect and unite the Iraqi people.
For his part, the delegation praised the positions of al-Hakim family that defend the rights of the Iraqi people of all components, stressing the adherence to the unity of the land and the people of Iraq.
