Sayyid Ammar Al Hakim, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, received the new French Ambassador to Iraq Francois Bartley in his office in Baghdad on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, and discussed with him the security and political developments in Iraq as well as the successes achieved by Iraqi diplomacy in opening to the world states, and to the neighboring countries in particular. His eminence assured to Ambassador Bartley that the security forces have accomplished great successes in freeing the regions, getting ahold of the land and fiercely confronting the terrorist gangs, but they need more logistical and intelligence support, as well as regional support in their work. For his part, Ambassador Bartley stated that the French government is committed to helping Iraq in its war on terrorism and to providing more humanitarian assistance to the displaced families, pointing out that the international coalition is making intensive efforts in this regard.
On another note, Ambassador Bartley underlined that his government is following the tremendous efforts deployed to unite the Iraqis and that it praises the efforts of his eminence to bring together the Kurdistan region and the center as well as the different political blocs in Iraq. He explained that this will pave the way for the international community to increase its support to Iraq at all levels. Furthermore, his eminence lauded the visit recently paid by French President Mr. Hollande to Iraq and considered it a step in the right direction and an important message to the international community. He also asked Ambassador Bartley to urge French companies to come and work in the projects implemented in different regions of the country.
