Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, renewed his call to create a higher council for the Iraqi tribes that would support them without controlling or blackmailing them, saying the tribes are a case that is more global than any party.
This came during a meeting held on Thursday, 5/2/2015, between his Eminence at his office in Baghdad and a number of the leaders of the Barzanji tribes all over Iraq from all components.
His Eminence called on the moderate people in all Iraqi arenas to join forces and to insist on acting moderately in Iraq, explaining that the ISIS group targets everyone and the ultimate way to confront it is to get united in words and acts, adding that the Iraqis have no other choice but to stand by the justice, the project and the Iraqi government which was built based on harmony. He also stated that the clergymen, the Iraqi tribes and the civil society organizations assume a double responsibility in addressing the problems and dissipating everyone’s concerns, considering this as direct reason behind the success of the national reconciliation since this is not mere a slogan, saying the political powers must exchange concessions and think of each other in order to reach moderate solutions.
