Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, called for building a global strategic partnership between Iraq and Jordan that would be based on a roadmap and executive steps within a fixed schedule to activate the mutual cooperation principles, maintaining that the time is now more opportune than ever for a mutual cooperation for the will and the seriousness are there. He also added that both countries are partners in fighting terrorism and extremism and face a big challenge and that Iraq and Jordan are targeted by this terrorism especially with the rise of extremism and its spread over the region, underlining the historical links and the common interests between both brother peoples.
This came during a meeting held between Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim and the Jordanian Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour on Sunday, 22/3/2015 in Amman as part of the visit by his Eminence to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan upon invitation by his Highness, Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
For his part, Mr. Ensour said Jordan supports Iraq and the efforts made to restore its security and stability, and to overcome the hard conditions it is going through. According to him, Jordan deals with impartiality with the different components of the Iraqi people and is willing to harness its capacities in the benefit of the Iraqi people. Mr. Ensour also called for promoting the common agreements that have been reached on different levels between both brother countries so as to serve their common interests.
