Sayyid Al-Hakeem Meets Maysan Sheiks, Dignitaries: Upcoming Elections Pivotal, Stability Requires Conscious Participation
Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, met on Saturday, September 20, 2025, with sheiks, dignitaries, and residents of Maysan province, listening to their perspectives and concerns that reflected the aspirations of the people of the province.
During the meeting, His Eminence recalled key moments shared with the people of Maysan, from the struggle against dictatorship to the process of building a democratic system, emphasizing the deep historical bond H.E. shares with the province and its people.
H.E. noted that while Iraq’s democratic experience has achieved tangible milestones, it has also been subjected to smear campaigns that weakened the public’s ability to recognize these achievements. H.E. highlighted Iraq’s success in overcoming major challenges, including terrorism and political and social conflicts, pointing out that reconstruction efforts are visibly underway, though more work remains to be done.
H.E. stressed that the upcoming elections represent a pivotal turning point for Iraq, moving the country from fragile stability to sustainable stability. H.E. urged broad and informed participation, calling on voters to choose worthy candidates from credible lists. H.E. also warned against excessive spending in election campaigns, viewing it as a signal of personal ambition and a misuse of public office, noting the contradiction between such lavish expenditures and the legally defined salaries and privileges of parliament members.
On the water crisis, H.E. called for fundamental solutions including river lining, sea-water desalination, the adoption of modern irrigation systems, and diplomatic efforts to secure Iraq’s fair water share. H.E. underlined that this issue is a national priority requiring extensive cooperation between the government and society.
