Sayyid Al-Hakeem Receives German, Austrian Academic Delegation, Reviews Iraq Reality, Phase Challenges

His Eminence Sayyid Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, welcomed at His office in Baghdad on Thursday evening, 22 January 2026, an academic delegation of scientists and researchers from the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Austria.
H.E. expressed appreciation for the delegation’s visit to Iraq and highlighted the level of progress they had witnessed, noting that the country has reached a phase of political, social, and security stability. H.E. also listened to their views on the academic landscape following their visits to Iraqi universities, as well as their positive impressions of the security conditions during their stay.
H.E. noted that Iraq has gone through major challenges that few countries could have managed, yet succeeded in overcoming them, affirming that Iraq today stands as a regional example of democratic maturity and peaceful coexistence among its various components.
H.E. added that the current stage presents further challenges, particularly economic pressures and climate change, explaining that these are structural issues resulting from long-term dependence on oil and a single-source economy. H.E. stressed that Iraq is moving ahead with concrete steps to diversify its economy and stimulate productive sectors, especially agriculture, industry, investment, and modern technology, in addition to capitalizing on its rich tourism potential in religious, archaeological, and natural fields.
On regional developments, H.E. warned that any escalation would fuel tensions and conflicts extending beyond the region itself, calling on elites, professionals, and decision makers to encourage all disputing parties to adopt dialogue as the primary path for resolving differences, as it remains the most effective means to protect rights and ensure lasting stability.
