Sayyid Al-Hakeem Meets Mandaean Sabian Cult’s Head, Affirms National Status
His Eminence Sayyid Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, met on Wednesday morning, 28 January 2026, at His office in Baghdad with Sheikh Sattar Jabbar Al-Hilu, Head of the Mandaean Sabian community in Iraq.
The meeting reviewed Iraq’s political and social landscape and reaffirmed that the Mandaean Sabians are a fundamental component of the Iraqi people, whose presence constitutes a valuable enrichment of the country’s national cultural and social identity.
H.E. stressed the importance of safeguarding political representation for the Mandaean Sabian community in line with the Constitution and the principles of equal citizenship, emphasizing the need to protect their rights and secure their meaningful participation in public life.
H.E. further called for encouraging the voluntary return of Mandaean Sabians who were compelled to migrate, and for providing suitable conditions to ensure a safe and dignified return, highlighting the significance of their role in building Iraq and reinforcing its democratic process and political and social stability.
