Sayyid Al-Hakeem warns against using the street as a political break between the parties
In Baghdad Diwan for Political and Social Elites 21/5/2022, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, head of Al-Hikma National Movement, stood at the departure of the great Iraqi poet Muzaffar A-Nawab (may Allah’s mercy be upon him), praising his history and his positions while warning against the use of the street for a political break between the parties.
His Eminence said that the parliamentary political system was found to note the diversity of Iraqi society and the representation of its components and it was an ideal choice for a society that emerged from that abhorrent dictatorship, calling for acceptance of the negative and positive consequences of the parliamentary system, indicating that the most important causes of the current crisis are the results of the recent elections that led to an unbalanced reality, while it’s been characterized by positive features, including keeping the crisis in its peaceful political framework and not adopting violent behavior, as well as the continuation of the national effort to solve it through initiatives with continuous communication between all, in addition to enriching the political reality with proposals for a solution from all parties such as the national majority and the large majority and so on.
His Eminence renewed his position presented to the national majority, adding that it faces two problems, the first is the problem of preserving the representation of the social components, and the larger component in particular, and the second problem is that it did not provide sufficient guarantees for the political and legal opposition, as the opposition is reform and follow up. H.E. indicated that the behavior of some of the powers calling for the majority reinforced the hypothesis of not going to the opposition while stressing that the presence of the opposition and the loyalists, each within its legal framework, represents a guarantee of the political system.
His Eminence affirmed that Iraq is part of an international and regional equation, and that there is a tendency to solve the region’s problems, citing direct bilateral dialogues in more than one arena in our Arab and Islamic region, and that Iraq’s stability is the most important factor in the stability of the region, warning against using the street to break politically, calling for preserving the crisis in its political framework, adding that the street is a field for expressing injustice and demanding rights, not for political parties to hit each other.
His Eminence called for balance in presenting the positives and negatives of the stage, while rejecting the language of treason and defamation, indicating the importance of communicating with everyone in a way that preserves Iraq's interests and the independence of its political decision.
Regarding food security, His Eminence said that no one is against achieving food security, and most of the problem is legal and follows the powers of the caretaker government, indicating that allowing laws to be legislated in the caretaker stage risks democracy and relieves pressure on political powers in the hasty formation of governments after each election, calling to restore confidence in the democratic process. H.E. stressed the existence of general principles of political action that define the higher interests and red lines and ensure that they are not crossed and stressed the need to agree on programs before the personnel, noting that the calls to dissolve Parliament do not represent a realistic solution to the unwillingness of the public and political powers to accept them.
