Sayyid Al-Hakeem: Iraq Possesses Real Opportunity to Transform Current Stability to Long-Term Sustainability

Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, received a delegation from the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), led by Mr. Paul Dziewicki, Head of Mediation and Peace Support. The meeting focused on Iraq’s current landscape—its challenges, opportunities, and positioning amidst ongoing regional and international developments.
H.E. noted that Iraq has endured significant hardships over the past two decades but has faced them with unity and resilience. H.E. emphasized that the country is now experiencing an unprecedented level of security, political, and social stability, complemented by a constructive engagement with both regional neighbors and the broader international community, along with widespread reconstruction and development efforts across all provinces.
H.E. further highlighted that Iraq’s rich social diversity is a unique asset in building cultural and diplomatic bridges with global communities. H.E. called for drawing on Iraq’s experience in transitioning from dictatorship to democracy, which offers valuable lessons in state-building and institutional development.
H.E. also underscored Iraq’s firm commitment to a policy of constructive neutrality, asserting that Iraq’s role as a mediator and regional stabilizer is deeply rooted in its history. H.E. described the upcoming elections as a critical opportunity to consolidate this role and to translate the current phase of stability into a lasting foundation that meets the aspirations of the Iraqi people.
