    In his Meeting with Mr. Nechervan Barzani, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim Says: Elections Are an Important Step and Must Be Held in Positive Conditions


    Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, maintained that elections are an important step and must be held in positive conditions, stressing the importance of the people's participation in honest, free elections in order to form consistent parliament and government. This came during a meeting between his Eminence and the prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraqi Kurdistan in his office in Baghdad, Wednesday, December 25, 2013.
    His Eminence explained that there is a real intention to resolve the problems between the Iraqi Kurdistan and the center in terms of oil and security cooperation, stating that such intention is visible in the fact that Barzani briefed his Eminence about the results of discussions he has held with the Prime Minister. 
    For his part, Barzani estimated the efforts made by Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, reiterating the commitment of the Kurdistan Regional Government to the constitution which stipulates that oil and gas are for everyone. He also said the Regional Government will not stand against the adoption of the budget for 2014, and he is eager to take part in the Arbaeen visit the next year.
