Sayyid Al-Hakeem Calls for Broad Participation, Affirms People’s Votes Historic Trust

After casting his ballot in the 2025 parliamentary elections, His Eminence, Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers Alliance, urged Iraqis in a media statement, to seize this national moment by taking part broadly and effectively in the electoral process, expressing their views freely, and choosing those they deem most deserving of their trust.
His Eminence affirmed that today’s participation is an extension of the 2005 milestone, when Iraqis faced security challenges yet headed to the polls and created a historic democratic moment. H.E. noted that the 2005 elections laid the foundations of democracy, while the 2025 elections will lay the groundwork for sustainable stability.
H.E. pointed out that the country now enjoys a state of security and stability, and although voting takes only minutes, its results shape Iraq for the next four years—making participation and defending this national right a “great responsibility.” H.E. expressed confidence that the Iraqi people are fully capable of bearing it.
Addressing those who chose not to participate, H.E. said: “We had hoped to celebrate this electoral occasion together, but we respect their choices and judgments. We affirm that our participation today is to safeguard the interests and rights of all Iraqis, both participants and non-participants.”
H.E. also directed a message to the political powers, stressing that the people’s word is settled once the polling stations close, and that political powers must then return to dialogue, expedite the formation of the government, and organize the next stage in a manner that aligns with the people’s confidence and aspirations.
H.E. extended gratitude and appreciation to the security forces for their efforts in protecting the electoral process, expressing hope that these efforts continue until the final hours of election day.
Addressing the Independent High Electoral Commission, H.E. underscored that the votes of Iraqis are “a trust placed upon you,” calling for their protection and for announcing the true results emerging from the ballot boxes, as this represents a “historic responsibility.”
H.E. also urged partners inside Iraq to uphold the values of understanding and harmony, to move past the tensions of electoral competition and the irresponsible statements made during the campaign, affirming that the country belongs to everyone and that Iraqis are equal in rights and duties.
Concluding his remarks, H.E. addressed regional and international partners, stressing that through these elections Iraq reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its internal foundations, extending its hand in cooperation and partnership, and striving to serve as a bridge connecting all sides.
